Thomas Gillis
Thomas Gillis behaalde zijn diploma’s Licentiaat in de Rechten en Licentiaat in de Criminologie aan de Universiteit Gent, en studeerde nadien verder aan King’s College London en London School of Economics and Political Sciences. Hij is tevens advocaat aan het Internationaal Strafhof, het Kosovo Tribunaal en het VN Libanon Tribunaal te Den Haag. In Londen werd aan London School of Economics and Political Science een bijkomende studie oorlogsrecht volbracht, aan het Asser Instituut te Den Haag werd het trainingsprogramma Disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction afgewerkt en recent nog aan het United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute te Turijn werd een vervolmakingsopleiding Criminal Law Defence gevolgd. Hij begon aan de Gentse balie als advocaat-stagiair in 1999, en dit op het kantoor van Mter. Piet Van Eeckhaut (†), oud-stafhouder van de Gentse Balie en uitzonderlijk strafpleiter. Dit was acht jaar de best mogelijke leerschool, waarna hij op 1 januari 2007 Gillis Advocatenkantoor oprichtte. Om deel uit te maken van het team zijn passie voor het strafrecht, volharding, doortastendheid, enthousiasme en veel energie een must.
Thomas Gillis got both his law degree and criminology degree at Ghent University. Later he studied at King’s College London and London School of Economics and Political Sciences. He is also a lawyer at the International Criminal Court, the Kosovo Specialist Chambers and the UN Special Tribunal for Lebanon in The Hague. Additional specialist courses were taken at London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE Short course in Law, war and human rights), at Asser Institute in The Hague (Annual training programme on disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction) and at the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute in Turin (International criminal law defence seminar). He started as a trainee lawyer in 1999 at the law firm of Mter. Piet Van Eeckhaut (†), former Dean of the Ghent Bar Association and exceptional criminal lawyer. Eight years later he established Gillis Advocatenkantoor, January 1st 2007. To become part of the team, passion for criminal law, perseverance, thoroughness, enthusiasm and loads of energy are a must.
Thomas Gillis a obtenu ses diplômes de droit et de criminologie à l’Université de Gand. Ensuite il a fait des études à King’s College London et à London School of Economics and Political Sciences. Il est aussi avocat à la Cour Pénal Internationale, le Tribunal Kosovo et le Tribunal spécial de Nations Unies pour le Liban à La Haye. Il a complété des cours additionnelles à London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE Short course in Law, war and human rights), à l’ Institut Asser à La Haye (Annual training programme on disarmament and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction) et à l’Institut interrégionale de recherche des Nations Unies sur la criminalité et la justice à Turin (International criminal law defence seminar). Il a commencé sa carrière comme avocat-stagiaire au cabinet de Mtre. Piet Van Eeckhaut (†), ancien bâtonnier du barreau de Gand et avocat pénaliste exceptionnel. Après avoir eu là l’école d’apprentissage idéale pendant huit ans, il a établi son propre cabinet, Gillis Advocatenkantoor, le premier janvier 2017. Pour joindre l’équipe, la passion pour le droit pénal, la persévérance, l’enthousiasme, la rigueur et beaucoup d’énergie sont indispensables.
Laura Vandaele
Laura Vandaele behaalde haar Master Rechten aan de Universiteit Gent. Op 1 september 2022 begon ze haar drie jaar durende stage bij en onder toezicht van Thomas Gillis. Laura is enorm gemotiveerd en heeft een grote passie voor het strafrecht. Ze volgde in 2023 de Salduz-opleiding betreffende bijstand tijdens het verhoor en behaalde tevens het certificaat.
Laura Vandaele obtained her Master of Laws at Ghent University. On 1 September 2022, she started her three-year internship with and under the supervision of Thomas Gillis. Laura is highly motivated and has a great passion for criminal law. She attended the Salduz training on assistance during interrogation in 2023 and also obtained the certificate.
Laura Vandaele a obtenu son Master en Droit à l’Université de Gand. Le premier septembre 2022, elle a commencé son stage de trois ans auprès de Thomas Gillis et sous sa supervision. Laura est très motivée et a une grande passion pour le droit pénal. Elle a suivi la formation Salduz sur l’assistance pendant l’interrogatoire en 2023 et a également obtenu le certificat.
